Cinnamon spice sugar cookies all dressed up as winter coats with the help of some homemade fondant.
I looked out my window a few mornings ago and was surprised by the very sudden arrival of winter. It had been warm and sunny and then *bam* snow everywhere! I have been wanting to get around to starting some Christmas baking but the warm weather and bare ground were sort of un-christmassy. Now its like a winter wonderland!
I figured that if I was going to bake some cookies, they had better be dressed for the cold weather.
I drew up some cookie templates using coats that I found online (helloooo modcloth) and then I cut them out and traced the shapes onto thicker paper. I find that its better if I have two copies of each shape: one for cutting out cookies, and one to cut out the fondant.
I used my mom's sugar cookie recipe but added 2tsp of cinnamon, 1/2 tsp of nutmeg, and 1/4 tsp of ground cloves because spiced cookies seem more wintry and seasonal. Then I cut out the shapes and let them harden in the freezer before baking them for ten minutes in a 350 degree oven.
After the cookies had cooled I rolled out some marshmallow fondant that I made the day before. I cut my coat drawings into separate pieces to use on the fondant. For each coat I cut out the arms first
I brushed the cookies with a thin coat of corn syrup and placed the fondant pieces on carefully.
Arms first, then the body, then the collar...
I used some left over gum paste buttons from the other dress cookies as a finishing touch along with some luster dust.
There, cookies that are ready for the snow storm....
So if you're stuck inside with some bad weather try making some creative cookies and decorating them with fondant. Its a cheap form of entertainment plus you get to eat the results
Snow already!!! These cookies are awesome! Too pretty to eat even. How talented you are!
