Its almost summer, and even though it's pouring rain and a bit chilly outside I can't help shopping around for summer dresses. These cookies are my summer wardrobe wish-list inspired by all the cute window displays I've been walking by lately.
As usual I didn't like the dress shaped cookie cutters that I had seen online. Instead I drew out some dresses to use as templates and then traced them onto thick paper and cut them into templates. I made sure to number the back of each dress drawing and put the same number on the template so that I'd be able to match up which design was which.
I used my mom's sugar cookie recipe for the cookies. I cut out each template using a sharp knife and then stuck the trays of uncooked cookies in the freezer before cooking to make sure that they would hold their shape.
After the cookies had cooled I brushed them with a thin layer of corn syrup so that the marshmallow fondant would stick to the cookies. Once I had matched up which cookie had come from which template I started to cut out fondant to make dresses from.
A few of the dresses I had drawn had draping on them. For these ones I rolled out two marshmallow fondant colours fairly thinly and then placed one on top of the other. Then I gave them a good couple of rolls to make sure that they were stuck together and also to thin them out. I don't like cookies with lots of thick fondant on them so I tried to keep my pieces as thin as possible.
Making the dresses was lots of fun, I made a bunch of designs but my favorites ended up being this pencil skirt with a yellow wrap shirt to wear to the office..
and the cute layered floral dress with a yellow tank under it for going out
A sleeveless dress with yellow draping and matching belt..
This colourful tiered day-dress (the middle layer of the skirt was brushed with luster dust to make it shimmer)
And this chocolate belted dress with a ruffled collar.
They turned out so cute that I don't even care that I still don't have any real summer dresses yet. Which is probably for the best because its still raining at the moment.
When summer finally arrives I'll be looking for the real-life version of these because cookies just don't make it through a whole season.
so well done! a super talented cookie designer you are!

These look GREAT! I think it would be a fun thing to do with a group of teenage girls -- let them make their own cookie fashion show. Can you imagine doing this at the project runway finale? Hehe. The brown belted dress with ruffled collar is my fave!
