Mmmm logos...
The company I work for had an open house event for all their clients and I thought it would be fun to make cookies with the SJE logo on them for the party. The process took a bit of trial and error but in the end I think it all came together nicely. We just won't think about the large amount of royal icing I made but didn't use.. and won't use anytime soon.
This is the logo that I wanted to get on the cookies. My first plan of action: cut little letters out of fondant. It will be easy! Ice the cookie, stick on the letters, shave off the top of the 'S' and the 'e', done!
Plan failed: A big part of how the image looks is what font the letters are.. the font of my cookie cutters was more happy-birthday-party than company-event-for-clients
My next plan : Make a stencil, then pipe the logo on with royal icing. Perfect! In fact.. I'll make the icing ahead of time! Hurrah!
Plan fail: I recently got a new icing bag, and it doesn't fit my smaller writing tip. This poor cookie took the brunt of my frustrations and suddenly the icing I made ahead of time didn't seem like such a good idea
New and final plan: Use some food colour markers, colour the stencil in. Done! Plus, nothing says tasty like "FDA approved edible food colouring"
Along with the white cookies I frosted some smaller ones with green royal icing....
..and some with blue ones!
Voila! Logo cookies that are all serious and work-event appropriate AND fun smaller cookies to make sure that people don't feel like they are eating a plate of business cards. It was for a party after all. I figured I could leave the eating of business cards to the regular work days.
Now that I know how to do this, the process is actually quite simple. Making a stencil is just a matter of having a good exacto knife and then the logo can be coloured in with a food colouring marker, or just painted in with a fine brush and some food colouring.
